Why Is Nvidia SO Important to AI Stocks?

On November 19, investors will witness one of the most anticipated earnings reports of the year. Nvidia is not only a prominent manufacturer of semiconductors but also one of the most important indicators of how much money companies are willing to spend on artificial intelligence.

For investors, the critical question is not whether Nvidia will beat estimates. Instead, the main intrigue revolves around whether the company can convince the market that the AI infrastructure spending spree will continue in the future.

Why Nvidia?

Nvidia is the company that provides the critical infrastructure for AI development. Its results act as an important indicator for the development of the AI economy. Although it is not possible to estimate how much Microsoft, Meta, or Alphabet can profit from AI, Nvidia’s results directly indicate how much money companies are ready to spend on AI infrastructure.

The results of the fiscal year 2025 demonstrate the incredible potential of AI. Nvidia’s sales reached $130.5 billion in revenue, up 114% from the previous year. Its Data Center business generated $115.2 billion, with around 88% coming from the segment related to AI infrastructure. Nvidia’s performance is even more important than the results of traditional technology companies. This makes the earnings report of the graphics card manufacturer not only interesting but critical for investors.

What Investors Want to Know

Nvidia’s results are expected to be impressive, with a net income of around $54.9 billion in quarterly revenue, representing growth of roughly 56% year over year. Analysts are also expecting around $29.5 billion, according to LSEG, as Reuters noted. However, the critical attention will be paid to Blackwell, Nvidia’s upcoming chip, and the company’s gross margins, which reached an incredible 72.7% in the last quarter. Additionally, investors will closely follow Nvidia’s guidance for the next period.

Nvidia’s performance is essential for the broader market as well. According to Reuters, Nvidia’s stock accounts for around 8% of the S&P 500, so the results of the graphics card manufacturer can affect the performance of the broader market.

A Crossroads

Nvidia’s results are important to investors because they represent the critical intersection of the AI economy. The AI infrastructure spending spree has already reached incredible levels, with Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, and Meta investing billions of dollars in AI data centers. Therefore, Nvidia’s results can indicate whether the economy is entering a new phase of development.

Investors want to know whether companies that spend billions of dollars on AI infrastructure expect to recoup these investments. If Nvidia’s results demonstrate that demand for its products is still strong, it will reassure investors that the investment spree in AI is sustainable.

Otherwise, a pessimistic outlook from Nvidia will prompt investors to ask whether the incredible spending spree in AI is rational. After all, all the companies that have invested in AI development are now at risk of colossal write-offs. Nvidia's earnings will not determine whether artificial intelligence succeeds. But they could provide one of the clearest financial signals yet about whether the AI boom is still accelerating or beginning to mature.
